The Balochistan government has formally begun demarcating land for a low-cost housing scheme intended for low-income fishermen in Gwadar
The exercise began on July 8 under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Zahoor Ahmed Baloch, following instructions from Gwadar Development Authority Director General Moin ur Rehman Khan.
In April, the provincial government allocated more than 200 acres of land for the project, with an estimated cost of Rs2.44 billion.
The site is near the intersection of Jiwani and Awaran avenues and the Gwadar Sports Complex, according to a Gwadar Pro's report on Thursday.
The scheme is expected to include 2,970 residential plots, each measuring 120 square yards, to be allocated to eligible fishermen.
A joint team comprising officials from the Gwadar Development Authority, the district administration and police has begun surveying the site and installing boundary markers.
Revenue officials, surveyors, enforcement personnel and police officers took part in the operation.
Officials also inspected alleged encroachments and unauthorized occupation of government land during the exercise.
Those found occupying the land were asked to vacate it within a specified period, officials said, adding that legal action could follow in cases of non-compliance.
The Gwadar Development Authority said the demarcation forms part of efforts to implement the city’s master plan and protect public land.
