China has donated 58 solar-powered street lights to Karachi, in what officials described as a small but practical boost to the city’s public safety and local infrastructure. The lights were handed over at a ceremony in Clifton organised by the Chinese Consulate General. Consul General Yang Yundong and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab attended the event, Gwadar Pro reported.
Yang said the project reflected the “all-weather” and “ironclad” Pakistan-China partnership and was part of Beijing’s push to support community-level development. He said China would continue working with Karachi on similar “small yet smart” livelihood initiatives. Wahab said the lights had already improved night-time mobility for residents and signalled the city’s willingness to expand cooperation with China, including under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The donation is the latest in a series of targeted development efforts by China in Pakistan’s largest city.
