As the industry exhibition and product fair of the 6th China Xizang Tourism and Culture Expo opened in Lhasa on September 2, a familiar face stood out among the international participants.

Aidi, a Pakistani businessman, returned to Lhasa for his eighth trade exhibition in Xizang, this time bringing with him onyx handicrafts.

He is among Pakistani exhibitors showcasing various products including carpets, copper and brass handicrafts and gemstone jewellery, Gwadar Pro reported on Monday.

This year’s expo features exhibition areas dedicated to Xizang’s industrial development alongside a product sales zone offering a wide range of plateau specialties, products from other parts of China and international items.

A total of 392 enterprises from China, France, Australia, Indonesia, Nepal and Canada are participating in the expo.

For Aidi, each visit to Lhasa has deepened his connection with the region. Speaking at his booth, he noted that local consumers’ recognition of Pakistani products has grown steadily over the years, particularly carpets, which have proven highly popular among local residents.

His observation reflects a broader trend: at previous editions of the expo, carpets from Pakistan, Iran, etc were among the most sought-after items.

Beyond commerce, the expo serves as a platform for cultural exchanges.

Many of the crafts on display, from handwoven textiles to intricately carved metalware, represent intangible cultural heritage industries that have been handed down through the generations.

For exhibitors like Aidi, the event has also become a bridge connecting peoples and traditions, one that has grown stronger with each passing year. “I have been touched by the warmth and friendliness of the people here” he said.

“I hope that through events like this expo, we can continue to build bridges of understanding and mutual support between our people, even in the most difficult of times.”
