The youth of oil and gas producing districts will be imparted technical skills as the government has decided to set up the Institute of Petroleum Technology in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the purpose, WealthPK reports.
The authorities have already acquired 250 kanals of land for the establishment of the institute. The Institute of Petroleum Technology will be set up by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in collaboration with the federal government at a cost of Rs3 billion.
In this connection, a meeting was held here with Energy and Power Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan in the chair. The meeting was also attended by Special Secretary Power Tashfeen Haider, Additional Secretary Faheem Khan, Additional Secretary Asif Khan and Chief Planning Officer Ayaz Khan besides other senior officials of the project.
Nisar Ahmad Khan said that the institute would offer courses for youth to enable them to serve the people of the province through their skills along with getting decent employment in their area.
The project director of the scheme told the meeting that 250 kanals of land were already acquired from the joint funds of the federal and provincial governments for the establishment of the institute.
He said that the Board of Governors was also formed to supervise the affairs of the institution. He said that six-month diploma courses would be conducted in the institution for youth in petroleum, drilling, production, mechanical, chemical, electrical, instrumentation and civil technologies.
He said that initially drilling classes were launched for the youth from September 26 in a rented building.
Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan expressed his anger over the delay in the establishment of the institution and issued strict instructions to the officials of the project for the completion of the scheme. He said that government money should be spent for the convenience of the people.
He said that the process of procurement of machinery including the construction of the building for the institute should be expedited, according to a statement received by WealthPK.
