PPP favours completion of assemblies’ termBreaking

July 15, 2023

Pakistan People Party (PPP) leadership has proposed to complete the constitutional term instead of dissolving the assemblies before time. They were of the view that instead of dissolving the assemblies, they should be allowed to complete the term. It is better than dissolving the assemblies a few days before the end of the term as dissolving assemblies’ prior time will not give a good message. In an informal interaction with media, the Pakistan People  Party Secretary General Nayar Hussain Bukhari said that the Assembly members took oath on August 13, 2018. According to this calculation, when five years are completed, elections will be held on the same day. Federal Commerce Minister Naveed Qamar has said that the People Party proposed to the government to dissolve all the assemblies on August 8. In an informal conversation at the Parliament House, Naveed Qamar said that he does not support further expansion in the current setup, the caretaker seat.

You should not go beyond the statutory period in any case. He said that the decision to dissolve the assemblies has to be taken by the federal government, they will not back down from the principled stand on the legislation on the expansion of the current assembly. He said that the People Party wants electoral reforms before the elections. Consensus is necessary. Naveed Qamar said that matters like results transmission system are important in electoral reforms. Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and In-charge of Prime Minister Complaints Cell Murtaza Javed Abbasi has said that a decision will be taken to dissolve the assembly in consultation with the allies. Each political party has its own opinion according to the party policy. Before the completion of the constitutional period, a decision will be taken to dissolve the assembly in consultation with all the allies. He said that consultation regarding return of party’s supremo Nawaz Sharif was underway and he after return will lead the election campaign.
