A dacoit was killed in an alleged police encounter on By-Pass Road near Saddar Police Station Okara, while his three accomplices managed to flee in dark hours of the night, Police confirmed on Wednesday.According to Okara police, the dacoits were looting citizens after setting up a blockade on By-Pass Road near Saddar Police Station. Police on receiving a call about this criminal activity rushed to reach at the scene. As police reached near the dacoits, they opened fire on police party.

The police retaliated and responded with fire on dacoits. The police said that during the exchange of fire, one dacoit was killed, whereas his three accomplices managed to flee.Police said that a search operation has been launched to arrest the fugitives, and checkpoints have been set up for this purpose. The police further stated that the body of the deceased suspect has been shifted to the hospital for a post-mortem.
