The District Police Officer of Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer Sipra, has confirmed that the "Queen of the Hills" is currently experiencing a fresh spell of snowfall, with up to four inches recorded at various locations so far.As tourists continue to flock to the popular hill station, DPO has personally taken to the field to boost the morale of police personnel and supervise traffic management and rescue operations.
According to the latest data released by Murree Police, there has been a significant influx of tourists. By 9:20 PM on Thursday, a total of 10,741 vehicles entered the district, while 9,544 vehicles departed. In the city’s core areas, 9,551 vehicles entered and 7,469 exited, leaving a net total of 2,082 vehicles within city limits. Over the last 24 hours, the overall volume reached 11,339 incoming vehicles, with 2,278 vehicles currently situated in the city’s more congested zones.
DPO Dr. Tanveer Raza emphasized that Murree Police, Traffic Wardens, and Rescue 1122 teams are on high alert. He stated that teams have been deployed at all key highways and strategic points, working round-the-clock to guide tourists and provide immediate assistance amid the severe weather. The DPO is personally monitoring the flow of traffic to ensure that no commuters are stranded during the heavy snowfall. In light of the predicted snowstorm, the DPO has issued a strict advisory to ensure public safety.
He stressed that the use of snow chains is mandatory to prevent skidding on slippery roads. Drivers are also advised to keep fuel tanks full to ensure heaters remain functional in case of traffic delays. Tourists are strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel at night and are prohibited from parking on main roads, allowing snow-clearing machinery to operate unhindered.
DPO Sipra concluded by affirming that police teams at all entry points are welcoming tourists while keeping them informed of the latest weather updates. He advised citizens to prioritize safety and follow the instructions of traffic staff. In case of any emergency or vehicle breakdown, tourists are urged to immediately contact Police Helpline 15 or Rescue 1122 for prompt assistance.
