Death toll in horrible Karachi accident rises to 14Breaking

Benazir Bhutto Trauma Center Executive Director Dr Sabir Memon on Saturday morning said that the death toll in Friday night’s horrific accident on Karachi’s Super Highway has climbed to 14 as 12 dead bodies were brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and two to BBTC. Later, the dead bodies of 14 victims, including women and children who lost their lives in the horrific incident were sent to Kotri. Police officials said that the identification process of 10 bodies was under way through DNA, and only three bodies have been identified.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed an investigation into the accident. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed their heartfelt grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the accident. Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for patience and strength for the bereaved families.

He confirmed that rescue teams, including 1122 emergency services, were present at the scene and relief operations were ongoing. The Interior Minister directed hospital administrations to provide immediate and best possible medical treatment to the injured. He also instructed relevant authorities to speed up rescue efforts and ensure that all necessary facilities are available for victims. Earlier on Friday, a collision involving an oil tanker, a bus, and several other vehicles left 13 people dead and many others injured near Kathore in Karachi.

The injured people have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment and medication. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Khaliq said that so far, 13 bodies, including women and children, have been recovered. An oil tanker crushed a young man who was riding a motorcycle near Liaquatabad No. 4 AVLC Police Station in Karachi. Soon after receiving the report, Rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the dead body of the motorcyclist to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital through Chippa Ambulance. The identity of the 30-year-old motorcyclist is still unknown.
