Rise in petroleum levy deprives public of full oil price reliefBreaking

The federal government has increased the levy on petrol by Rs6.22 per liter with effect from July 2, 2026, depriving the public of full petrol price relief. Sources said that the total levy on petroleum has now reached Rs70.36 per liter after an increase of Rs6.22 per liter. Sources further revealed that the levy was decreased by Rs6.22 per liter in high-speed diesel (HSD). The levy on diesel was decreased from Rs77.4 paisa to Rs70.82 per liter.

The implementation of the new petroleum levy will start from July 4, 2026. On Friday, the government had reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs1.97 per litre each, providing modest relief to consumers. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy on July 3, the price of petrol has been lowered to Rs297.53 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs309.50 per litre. The revised prices have come into effect immediately upon issuance of the official notification and will remain in effect for one week.
