In a rapidly evolving global landscape, Pakistan is looking to China as a beacon of proactive leadership in addressing pressing global challenges. Experts in Pakistan believe that China’s commitment to building a global community of shared futures aligns with Pakistan’s aspirations for mutual benefit and prosperity. China’s visionary white paper, which outlines the blueprint for a better world, calls for an open, inclusive, clean and peaceful world that fosters lasting peace, universal security, and common prosperity. It’s a vision that resonates with many in Pakistan who see the potential for collaboration and shared growth.
Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Centre for Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), highlighted the significance of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in promoting sustainable development, enhanced living standards, and high-quality collaboration with developing countries. He pointed out that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project under the BRI, has significantly benefited Pakistan’s economic and social development by fostering economic cooperation and connectivity.
Dr Hasan Daud Butt, former Project Director of CPEC, said China’s approach to international cooperation, characterised by transparency and inclusivity, avoids political or military alliances and emphasises shared growth. “It provides an open platform for collaboration, welcoming all interested nations. China’s development initiatives, including BRI and CPEC, serve as a roadmap for advancing human society across various domains. Butt said that the central to China’s approach is its emphasis on friendship, sincerity, equality, and pragmatic cooperation. “The model of open and inclusive cooperation seeks to build bridges with all countries. China aspires to create a global community based on mutual respect and collaboration, sharing its developmental experiences with the world.”
He maintained that this vision encompassed governance, security, development and peace on a global scale, positioning China as a provider of solutions to pressing challenges. “Over the last decade, China has actively supported other developing countries, enhancing their growth potential through international cooperation and exchange.” In light of this, he said Pakistan is encouraged to follow China’s example and engage in open dialogue, share governance responsibilities, build consensus, and take coordinated actions to address global issues. “By aligning with China’s model of global cooperation, Pakistan can pave the way for mutual benefit and prosperity, contributing to regional peace and development. As the world faces evolving challenges, Pakistan has an opportunity to embrace China’s vision of a common future, forging stronger ties that promote a world of shared prosperity and peaceful coexistence,” said Butt.
