Balochistan province is poised to witness a surge in economic growth with the establishment of an electric appliances cluster at Bostan Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Led by the Balochistan Board of Investment (BOI), this initiative aims to tap into the potential of the electric appliances market, boost local manufacturing, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the province's economic prosperity. The electric appliances market is experiencing remarkable growth globally, driven by increasing urbanisation, rising disposable incomes, and a growing focus on energy efficiency.
"Balochistan, with its vast natural resources and strategic location, is well-positioned to tap into this lucrative market," said Rehana Kasi, research coordinator at Balochistan BOI, while talking to WealthPK.
She said the establishment of an electric appliances cluster at Bostan Industrial Zone is a strategic move to harness this potential and contribute to the province's economic growth. Bostan Industrial Zone, situated in district Pishin, covers an area of 1,000 acres. "The establishment of the electric appliances cluster at Bostan Industrial Zone will create a significant number of job opportunities for the local population," Rehana said. "The sector will require skilled workers for manufacturing, assembly, quality control, research and development, and other related activities," she said.
"This will not only address the issue of unemployment, but also contribute to skill development and capacity building in the region," she added.
She said the Balochistan BOI aims to attract local and foreign investment in the electric appliances sector at Bostan Industrial Zone. "By offering incentives and a favorable business environment, the BOI seeks to encourage investors to set up manufacturing facilities, transfer technology, and contribute to the sector's growth," she added. "This investment inflow will not only boost local manufacturing capabilities but also create opportunities for technology transfer and knowledge exchange," she added. Rehana said the establishment of the electric appliances sector at Bostan Industrial Zone aligns with the government's vision of promoting local manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports.
Additionally, the sector has the potential to contribute significantly to the province's export earnings, as the demand for electric appliances continues to rise globally. Rehana said the BOI will also collaborate with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to ensure the provision of necessary infrastructure, including electricity, water supply, transportation, and communication networks to industries. This strategic move will create employment opportunities, attract investment, promote local manufacturing, and contribute to the province's economic growth.
