Punjab is getting ready for a big change in its public transportation system thanks to a new deal between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways. The deal, which was signed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Federal Railway Minister Hanif Abbasi, is a big step toward making the province's railway system faster and better connected.
One of the most important parts of the plan is the start of a new high-speed train between Lahore and Rawalpindi. The service is expected to cut travel time between the two big cities to just two hours and fifteen minutes, giving passengers a faster and more comfortable way to get there than by car. This could make things a lot easier for business travellers, students, and families, and it could also cut down on traffic on major highways.
The project also includes the introduction of eight local railway routes that will cover almost 1,415 Kilometres across 20 districts of Punjab, in addition to the high-speed service. These routes will link big cities with areas that don’t get enough service, like Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and parts of Southern Punjab. The goal of the project is to make transportation more reliable for millions of people by giving more communities access to railroads.
Punjab is putting more emphasis on modernising its infrastructure and improving its public services. If it works out, it could be one of the most important transport changes in the last few years.
