New questions have arisen over the Afghan Taliban’s relationship with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) after an Indian vlogger’s reported journey thru Afghanistan included special security and meetings with TTP members near the Pakistan border.
A summary of posts that have circulated on X states that Afghan Taliban forces escorted Indian YouTuber Abhishek Bishnoi as he was traveling thru Kunar province. The security reportedly allowed him access to areas near the Pakistan border, where he filmed Pakistani military posts and visited nearby villages.
The account has attracted special attention as Bishnoi is said to have narrated a face-to-face meeting with people claiming to be members of the TTP. He reportedly said he was approached by a TTP member and contacted by the group’s intelligence unit. Taliban officials are said to have moved him away from the border area later.
The episode has renewed scrutiny of long-standing Pakistani allegations that Afghan territory is being used by militant groups, particularly the TTP, to operate against Pakistan. Islamabad has repeatedly accused Kabul of not curbing militant activity from Afghanistan, a charge the Taliban government has denied.
The reported interaction is significant, as any confirmed cooperation or coordination between the Taliban authorities and the TTP could further complicate already strained relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It could also revive debate over security along the porous border and movement of militants in the region.
The alleged contacts and alleged links need to be independently confirmed before they can be taken as fact.
As the story develops, the vlogger’s footage and other accounts may provide more insight into what happened during his journey — and whether the incident reveals anything more substantive about Taliban-TTP relations.
