February 10, 2026

Pakistan has officially confirmed that it will participate in its highly anticipated T20 World Cup match against India on February 15, 2026, after days of speculation and intense debate. The decision was approved by the government on Monday, which stated that the move was taken to protect the spirit of cricket and ensure the continuity of the sport at an international level. The announcement has brought an end to uncertainty surrounding one of the most high-profile fixtures of the tournament.

According to an official statement shared on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was briefed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi regarding the outcomes of important discussions held between the PCB, the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Following these multilateral deliberations, the government directed the Pakistan national team to take the field for its scheduled match. The statement added that the decision was also influenced by requests made by friendly countries, who urged Pakistan to play a constructive role in resolving the situation.

The government noted that formal communication had been received from the BCB, along with supportive messages from Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and other ICC member nations. These countries reportedly sought Pakistan’s leadership in reaching a viable solution amid the recent challenges. Pakistan also acknowledged the remarks made by BCB President Aminul Islam, stating that Bangladesh’s gratitude was received warmly and reaffirming that Pakistan stands firmly with its neighbour.

The statement further revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, during which both leaders recalled the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan president reportedly requested the prime minister to seriously consider resolving the issue amicably. Reacting to the development, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar welcomed the decision, calling it a major step forward and praising both the premier and the PCB chairman. With the political uncertainty now settled, attention will shift to the cricket field where Pakistan and India are set for another blockbuster encounter.
