ISLAMABAD: The skies of Islamabad reverberated with the roar of fighter jets as Pakistan Air Force (PAF) geared up for Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations on August 14.
Residents across Islamabad and Rawalpindi have reported hearing and seeing military aircraft conducting flypast rehearsals ahead of the national day celebrations. Aerial displays are likely to be among the highlights of the festivities, offering a powerful visual spectacle for the country’s Independence Day celebrations.
According to posts circulating on social media, the rehearsals involve several aircraft operated by the PAF including F-16 Fighting Falcons, JF-17 Thunder fighter jets, C-130 transport aircraft and Saab 2000 Erieye airborne early-warning aircraft.
Pictures and videos posted online show planes over the capital and on the ground, contingents marching and venues decorated in the national colors. The rehearsals have drawn a lot of interest from residents, and the sound of fighter jets has become a familiar sound in the city’s preparations for August 14.
The flypast is a longstanding tradition of the Independence Day celebrations which highlights the military aviation capabilities of Pakistan and adds to the thrill of the celebrations across the country. Such displays have been held in past years at well-known venues including Fatima Jinnah Park.
As Independence Day is just a few days away, the rehearsals are giving residents of Islamabad a glimpse of what is to be one of the most awaited moments of the celebrations when the skies of the capital are transformed into a stage for Pakistan’s aircraft and national pride.
