The Balochistan government has approved a massive Rs1.089 trillion budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, promising significant investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, security and job opportunities.
The budget was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti in Quetta and officials described it as a roadmap for economic growth and better public services.
Rs206 Billion Allocated for Development Schemes
The budget has allocated the biggest slice Rs206 billion for development projects. Of this amount Rs106 billion will be used for new schemes and Rs100 billion will be used for the completion of ongoing projects throughout the province.
“The projects will aim at improving roads, public facilities and essential services,” says the government.
Additional Federal and International Funding
Balochistan is also likely to get Rs85 billion more in the form of federally funded projects and foreign assistance programmes. The additional funds would help in fast tracking the development of infrastructure and welfare projects in different districts.
First Online Budgeting System Introduced
In a major governance reform the provincial government has prepared the budget through an automated budgeting system for the first time. Officials say they believe this will improve the transparency, efficiency and accountability in public expenditures.
Revenue Target Bumped Up To Rs 170 Billion
The government has set a target to generate provincial revenues of Rs170 billion in the next fiscal year. The aim is to boost the Balochistan economy and lessen dependence on external financial assistance.
What Does This Mean for the People?
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the budget was aimed at providing job opportunities, improving public services and accelerating the development of the province. If implemented effectively it can bring major improvements in the fields of education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic opportunities for the people of Balochistan.
