Pakistan’s entertainment industry recently witnessed a heated exchange between two well-known figures: Fahad Mustafa and Atiqa Odho, reigniting an ongoing conversation about age dynamics in showbiz.
The controversy began during a television appearance by Odho, where she was asked to share her candid thoughts on various actors. When Mustafa’s photograph appeared on screen, she made a pointed observation: perhaps it was time for him to start working opposite women closer to his own age. Her remark subtly criticized the long-standing industry practice of casting significantly younger actresses opposite established male stars.
While her comment was brief, it carried weight, especially in an industry where age gaps between on-screen couples are often normalized.
Mustafa addressed the comment during a live segment alongside fellow actor Humayun Saeed. His reaction, laced with sarcasm, quickly shifted the tone of the debate.
Questioning Atiqa Odho’s motives, he joked that perhaps she would only be satisfied if he and Saeed began starring opposite her. He then made remarks about cosmetic procedures, implying she should “get a few good surgeries” before they consider working together.
What may have been intended as humor did not sit well with many viewers. The exchange escalated from professional critique to personal commentary.
Odho later responded publicly, suggesting that he has been hurt by truth. She pointed out that during the same show, she had praised Mustafa’s dedication and screen presence, but he chose to respond to only the critical part.
Her response was measured yet firm. By stating that “truth obviously hurt,” she framed the issue not as personal animosity but as discomfort with an uncomfortable conversation.

Urwa Hoccain and some other actresses also raised voices in support of Atiqa Odho saying that such comments from Fahad Mustafa were so rude and disrespected. In response, Fahad Mustafa has formally apologized to Atiqa in a live show ‘Jeeto Pakistan’.

It highlights ongoing debates about age representation, gender double standards, and how criticism is received within the industry. While the headlines may fade, the questions raised about fairness and evolving casting norms are likely to remain part of the conversation for some time.
