LAHORE: Dark clouds rolled over Punjab on Sunday bringing much needed rain to several cities and turning the roads, neighbourhoods and low-lying areas into scenes of wet weather activity. Light to heavy rain was reported from Lahore to Kasur and Faisalabad as Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had warned more rain, strong winds and thunderstorm in parts of the province and other areas.
The highest rainfall was recorded at the airport in Lahore at 114mm while Khana received 19mm. The WASA Head Office and Tajpura of Gulberg received 6mm each while Manawan received 5mm.
Rain was reported across several parts of Lahore, including Johar Town, Canal Road, Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, the airport, Dharampura, Defence and Mall Road.
Near the provincial capital, Kasur recorded 40mm of rain, causing water to accumulate on the roads and in low-lying areas. Rain was also reported from Faisalabad where 13mm fell in Madina Town, 12mm in Dogar Basti, 7mm in Gulistan Colony and 6mm in Allama Iqbal Colony.
The system also produced rain in other parts of the country. Islamabad’s Saidpur received 31mm, Chakwal 11mm, Murree 10mm and Multan Airport 5mm.
The PMD said more rain and thundershowers were expected in parts of northeast and east Punjab, Kashmir, northeast Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Meanwhile, Karachi and other coastal areas of Sindh are expected to remain partly cloudy, with chances of drizzle at some locations.
Warnings have been issued by authorities for citizens to remain vigilant, particularly in areas prone to water collection and thunderstorms.
