December 31, 2025

As the January 1 deadline approaches, authorities have announced that action against vehicles without M-Tags will begin across Islamabad, leading to a sharp increase in the number of citizens visiting M-Tag registration centers. According to officials, more than 100,000 vehicles have now been fitted with M-Tags since November 14. In the last 24 hours alone, M-Tags were issued to 3,842 vehicles, reflecting a significant surge in registrations.

To manage the growing rush, additional staff and stock have been deployed at M-Tag centres, while Assistant Commissioners have been visiting the centers to review arrangements and ensure smooth operations. Authorities have also increased the number of M-Tag centres to 16 to facilitate the public. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon said vehicles without M-Tags will be stopped at various entry points from January 1.

He added that tag readers installed to identify vehicles without M-Tags will also be activated from the same date. The Deputy Commissioner directed staff at M-Tag centres to further speed up the tagging process, assuring that every possible facility was being provided to citizens to meet the deadline. Officials urged vehicle owners to obtain M-Tags at the earliest to avoid inconvenience once enforcement begins.
