March 17, 2026

The Diamer Basha Hydropower Project has announced 18 driver vacancies for residents of District Diamer as construction work on the mega dam continues. The project is owned by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), with the main construction contract awarded to the Power China–FWO joint venture, Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday.

According to the announcement, the vacancies are for driver positions linked to the project. Applicants with valid driving licences and relevant experience can apply through Central Testing Services by March 30. The recruitment is part of ongoing efforts to create employment opportunities for communities in the project area, according to the project statement.

Diamer Basha Dam is being built on the Indus River about 40 kilometres downstream of Chilas. WAPDA says the project is expected to be completed in 2030. Once finished, it is expected to have a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 million acre-feet, help irrigate 1.23 million acres of land, and generate 4,500 megawatts of electricity, with annual output of about 18 billion units.
