In an utter display of rising Islamophobia, several Muslims were injured after a violent mob attack on a peaceful Iftar gathering in Pune, exposing the deepening communal divide and growing insecurity faced by minorities in India. The attack took place near a lake in Oskarwadi village, where around 100 individuals, linked to Hindutva groups, stormed the gathering of Muslims who had assembled to break their Ramadan fast.

According to reports and the First Information Report (FIR), the assailants, armed with sticks and sharp weapons, hurled communal slurs, questioned the presence of the participants, and demanded that they remove their religious skullcaps before launching a brutal assault. Several participants sustained injuries as the mob thrashed them indiscriminately in a targeted act of religious hatred.

Rights groups have voiced concern over recurring delays in justice and lack of accountability in such incidents involving minorities. Analysts say the attack is part of escalating anti-Muslim violence and intolerance, fueled by extremist Hindutva ideology, which has created an atmosphere of fear and marginalization for Muslim communities across India.
