The federal government has launched a major set of initiatives aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s information technology ecosystem through workforce development, automation, innovation and enhanced digital service delivery, according to the Monthly Development Update – December 2025 released by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives.
The report states that the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved a project costing Rs 6,645 million to modernise service accessibility in Pakistan Post by shifting operations toward digital automation. The scheme aims to upgrade systems, improve operational efficiency and eliminate the department’s financial deficit through enhanced digital capability and streamlined processes.
According to the Ministry, the automation project will help expand access to postal and financial services, reduce manual inefficiencies and support the transition toward integrated digital platforms. The report notes that the initiative forms part of broader sectoral efforts to improve public service delivery and modernise government systems through technology-driven solutions.
In addition to postal automation, the Ministry highlights a larger national initiative titled “Revamping IT Industry Landscape – Tech Destination Pakistan,” which seeks to position Pakistan as a global technology hub. The report states that this programme focuses on strengthening IT infrastructure, diversifying the talent pool, developing industry-focused training and creating an enabling environment for business and innovation.
The Ministry notes that the initiative includes upskilling 20,950 professionals in emerging technologies and implementing a nationwide IT industry census in collaboration with the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. The programme features leadership development components, industry-linked bootcamps, apprenticeships, innovation hubs and partnerships with the private sector to support research, technology transfer and startup development.
According to the document, the Skill Bridge Initiative under the programme has already placed 1,300 candidates in IT firms, connecting trained professionals with employment opportunities across the sector. The Ministry states that stronger industry-government partnerships are being developed to improve professional training and support investment, mentorship and accelerator networks.
The update notes that the programme is expected to create over 14,000 jobs in the IT sector and increase IT exports by $400-500 million. It adds that the initiative aims to expand overall sectoral growth by 15-20 percent through improved digital capacity, enhanced competitiveness and greater participation by youth and entrepreneurs.
The report states that the government’s broader focus on digital transformation seeks to generate long-term economic growth, strengthen the national innovation ecosystem, and support increased inclusion through expanded access to technology.
According to the Ministry, the combined impact of automation reforms and IT industry development initiatives reflects the federal government’s commitment to modernising digital infrastructure, improving service delivery and accelerating Pakistan’s transformation into a technology-driven economy.
