The government of Punjab on Saturday imposed section 144 in five districts of the province for a three-day period with immediate effect. According to the notification, there will be a complete ban on all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins and rallies in Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzzafargarh, Rajanpur and Kot Addu districts during the aforementioned period.  It stated that the ban had to be imposed at the request of administrations of these districts which had expressed the apprehension that any gathering of people could become a ‘soft target’ for terrorists. So, therefore, read the notification, in order to protect the lives and properties of people, the provincial government had to give orders for the imposition of the section.
