The Punjab government has launched an unprecedented relief operation in response to Lahore's record-breaking rainfall, the highest in 44 years. Following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar conducted an extensive field visit to affected areas including Cordoba Chowk, Supreme Court Registry, Lakshmi Chowk, Gulberg, Bhati Chowk, and Gaddafi Stadium. Maryam Aurangzeb reported that rainwater drainage in hospitals has been managed swiftly, with ongoing efforts in other areas. She emphasized that advance preparations for the heavy rains were made, with joint teams from various institutions working around the clock. Equipment such as water pumps and necessary machinery were provided as per the Chief Minister's instructions. The Minister also assured that essential supplies, including medicines and vaccines for treating insect stings, are being provided to hospitals.

Continuous monitoring and relief operations, including the evacuation of low-lying areas, are being carried out. Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari stated that despite no formal rain emergency being declared, teams from WASA, LWMC, and the district administration are actively engaged in draining rainwater across Lahore. Key areas including GPO Chowk, Naba Road, Railway Station, Empress Road, and others have been cleared, with reports sent to the Chief Minister. Bukhari highlighted that drainage operations have been completed in various major locations such as Gaddafi Stadium, Thokar Niaz Baig, Allah Ho Chowk, Johar Town, and more. The relentless rain, persisting for over six hours, has not deterred the dedicated staff from their duties. The government machinery remains fully mobilized, with assurances that remaining waterlogged areas will be cleared within the next few hours.
