The Punjab government on Tuesday imposed Section 144 in Mianwali for a seven-day period in order to thwart PTI’s plans to hold a public gathering in the city. The provincial government imposed a ban on all kinds of political activities such as rallies, sit-ins and demonstrations. On the other hand, on the recommendation of the district administration, the government also ordered the deployment of Pakistan Rangers personnel. Two companies of the Rangers will remain deployed from October 1 to October 3. Issuing the notification, the Punjab Home Department, however, said that section 144 had been imposed in view of fears of terror attacks in the area. “When there are security concerns, any assemblage of people could be a soft target for terrorists,” the department said.
