The Punjab government has rescinded a 14-rupee per unit electricity subsidy for Islamabad consumers, following pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). As a result, federal area residents will not receive this subsidy on their September utility bills. According to a notification from Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), September bills for the federal territory will be issued at the electricity rates effective from July 1. Information Minister of Punjab, Azma Bukhari, confirmed the removal of the subsidy for Islamabad consumers, explaining that while Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz wished to continue the subsidy, it was not feasible due to commitments with the IMF. However, the subsidy for Punjab consumers will remain in effect until September 30. Bukhari assured that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is working on measures to provide relief to the public.
