A new case of monkeypox was confirmed in a person in Karachi on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in the city to 14. According to details, the monkeypox infection was confirmed in 35-year-old Waqas. The Provincial Public Health Laboratory at Dow University of Health Sciences confirmed the diagnosis following a laboratory test. A total of 40 cases of monkeypox have emerged in Sindh so far, with 14 reported in Karachi alone.

Earlier, on September 4 this month, a case of monkeypox was diagnosed in Karachi. A 19-year-old youth from interior Sindh was diagnosed with the disease and admitted to NIPA Hospital yesterday. A PCR test subsequently confirmed the presence of monkeypox in the young patient. The patient is currently receiving treatment in the isolation ward at NIPA Hospital.

Before this, another case of Monkeypox (mpox) had been reported in Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi, Pakistan, according to hospital authorities. A 40-year-old man, a resident of Gulistan-e-Johar, has tested positive for the mpox virus and is currently undergoing treatment in the isolation ward (ICU) of NIPA Hospital. Hospital officials said the patient had no recent travel history. The infection was confirmed through a PCR test.
