A notification circulating on social media claiming that Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has resigned from the presidency of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was declared fake by senior provincial minister Maryam Aurangzeb on Monday. Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb posted a message on Twitter (now X), stating that the notification regarding the resignation of the party head is false. The fake notification about Nawaz Sharif's resignation from the party leadership had been circulating since Sunday. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was elected as the PML-N president unopposed on May 28, 2024, after six years.
The PML-N supremo returned to the party’s helm six years after he lost the party president’s office due to a Supreme Court decision in the Panama Papers case. On May 13, 2024, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif resigned as the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), a couple of weeks after senior party leaders urged Quaid Nawaz Sharif to lead the party. The meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the PML-N under Article 15 of the party constitution was held on May 18 at 180-H Block of Model Town in Lahore. The PML-N CWC meeting nominated Nawaz Sharif as the new party president, and the PML-N General Council ratified Nawaz Sharif's presidency on May 28.
