The Peshawar Safe City Project’s central command system has been linked with drone and anti-drone technology for enhanced security and surveillance, police officials said on Wednesday. According to police officials, Pakistan’s first integration of a drone unit and an anti-drone system with a Safe City project will enable authorities to monitor drone activity and respond to potential security threats more effectively. The anti-drone system will monitor all drones flying within its radar coverage and provide coverage of up to five kilometres.
It will also generate automatic alerts, while any suspicious drone activity will trigger an immediate notification to the Safe City control room. The integration of drone and anti-drone technology with the central control room will enable round-the-clock aerial surveillance of sensitive locations, traffic and criminal activities. Police officials said the drone surveillance system would also be operational in Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Lakki Marwat.
The use of modern technology is expected to help authorities identify suspicious activities and potential terrorist threats in a timely manner. Live feeds from Safe City drones will allow officials to monitor field operations directly, while the system will also provide operational support to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), police officials added. Earlier, police foiled an attack by more than 30 terrorists on a police post in Hassan Khel, Peshawar, ARY News reported on Friday, quoting the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO).
The CCPO said the militants targeted the Speen Mela police post from two directions, launching an assault with heavy weapons from the Moosazai Dara side. He said 16 Peshawar police personnel put up a strong resistance and successfully repelled the attack. The terrorists had also brought an improvised explosive device (IED), which police personnel defused, the CCPO added.
