Pak-EU reaffirm commitment to jointly combat religious intolerance, extremismBreaking

Pakistan and European Union have reiterated to jointly combat the religious intolerance and fostering a peaceful future. This was vowed during meeting of Special Envoy EU for the Promotion of Religion and Belief Frans van Daele with Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik Hussain here on Wednesday. The meeting was aimed to discuss the growing global concerns over religious intolerance, terrorism, sectarianism, and the promotion of peace and interfaith harmony. Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Salik Hussain highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to protecting the rights of minorities, stating that a comprehensive policy on interfaith harmony had been formulated and submitted to the Federal Cabinet for approval.

He emphasized that Pakistan was resolute in promoting religious tolerance.  “Over 700 scholars representing various religions and sects have endorsed the Paigham-e-Pakistan document,” the minister said, adding that “no individual is permitted to take the law into their hands in the name of religion”. Both the dignitaries reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union for promoting interfaith harmony and combating religious intolerance and extremism. Frans van Daele was accompanied by EU Ambassador in Pakistan Dr Riina Kionka.
