NA standing committee orders revival of Pakistan steel millsBreaking

August 16, 2024

The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Industries and Production has directed the revival of the Pakistan Steel Mills, contradicting the decision of the State Enterprise and Reorganization Commission (SERC). Chairing the committee's meeting, Syed Hafeezuddin expressed concerns over attempts by certain groups to seize the steel mills' land. The committee strongly opposed the SERC's decision to permanently shut down the Pakistan Steel Mills and formed a subcommittee led by MNA Naz Baloch to oversee the revival process. The subcommittee will be tasked with formulating recommendations to resolve the mills' administrative and financial issues, as well as developing a plan to make the mills operational while addressing the concerns of its employees.

The committee expressed its determination to ensure the revival of the steel mills and its contribution to the national economy. The committee also decided to visit the steel mills and form a subcommittee consisting of Naz Baloch as convener and members Abdul Hakeem Baloch, Muhammad Arshad Sahi, and Dr. Mukesh Kumar Malani. The chairman emphasized the importance of reactivating the steel mills, stating that many individuals have their eyes on the mills' land. He cited the example of Karachi's green belt, which was destroyed to make way for large buildings.
