The Lahore High Court has directed IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar to provide a detailed report following revelations that over 362,000 challans have not been deposited in courts across Punjab. Chief Justice Miss Alia Neelam was presiding over a petition filed by citizen Imran concerning delays in presenting challans. During the proceedings, Prosecutor General Punjab Syed Farhad Ali Shah and DIG Security appeared in court. The Prosecutor General confirmed that out of more than 531,000 cases registered between 2017 and July 2024, 362,127 challans remain unfiled. Over the past eight years, courts have received challans for 4.296 million cases, with discharge reports compiled for 372,326 cases. Chief Justice Neelam has adjourned the case until September 3, awaiting a comprehensive report from IG Punjab on the handling of these delayed challans.
