Key witnesses revoke statements against Imran Khan in May 9 incident caseBreaking

August 22, 2024

Former Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi and Umar Tanveer Butt have retracted their statements in the ongoing May 9 incident case before the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi. The two individuals, initially presented as key witnesses, submitted an application through their lawyer, Advocate Muhammad Faisal Malik, requesting the withdrawal of their earlier statements recorded under Section 164. The Special Anti-Terrorism Court accepted the application and included it in the official record. In their petition, Abbasi and Butt firmly denied ever making statements before a magistrate or in writing that implicated PTI founder Imran Khan in any wrongdoing. They emphasized that Imran Khan had always advocated for peaceful struggle and that the allegations against him, purportedly supported by their testimony, were unfounded. This turn of events could have significant implications for the case, potentially weakening the prosecution's position against the former Prime Minister.
