Islamabad High Court questions last-minute NOC revocation for PTI rallyBreaking

August 28, 2024

The Islamabad High Court has demanded explanations for the abrupt suspension of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for PTI’s Tarnool rally. Chief Justice Aamir Farooq presided over the case, questioning the administration’s decision to revoke the NOC on the day of the event. Lawyer Shoaib Shaheen argued that the rally had been initially approved but faced last-minute cancellation. Chief Justice Farooq criticized the administration for delaying the decision, highlighting the potential risks to the 25,000 attendees who had traveled from distant areas. He urged that timely notifications about security concerns should be provided to prevent endangering citizens. In response, Advocate General Islamabad acknowledged the PTI leadership’s decision to postpone the rally and confirmed that a new date of September 8 for the event had been authorized. The Chief Justice adjourned the case until September 10 to further assess the situation.
