The Islamabad High Court (IHC), led by Chief Justice Aamir Farooq, has sought clarity on the recent internet slowdown across the country before passing any orders. The Chief Justice made these remarks while hearing a petition challenging the reduced internet speed and the installation of a firewall. Advocate Iman Mazari represented the petitioner, expressing concerns over the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) silence on the issue. During the proceedings, Chief Justice Farooq questioned the cause of the internet slowdown, directing inquiries to be made with the PTA or the Ministry of Information Technology to ascertain the reasons behind the disruption. The court emphasized the need for a responsible official from the relevant ministry, knowledgeable about the situation, to brief the court. The Chief Justice indicated that those with direct knowledge of the matter would be summoned to provide explanations. The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to the concerned parties and adjourned the hearing until Monday.
