Heavy rainfall persists for third day, disrupting roads across SindhBreaking

August 29, 2024

Sindh continued to be battered by rainfall of varying intensities on Thursday. The accumulation of rainwater has severely affected the condition of roads, making it difficult to navigate flooded routes in Karachi and various areas of Sindh. Tragically, three people, including a husband and wife, have lost their lives in different accidents. Karachi’s monsoon is still strong, significantly impacting the city’s landscape. Rainfall measurements include 75 mm in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 44 mm in Bin Qasim, 31 mm in Kiamari, and 28 mm in Nazimabad. Many areas, particularly low-lying regions, are facing severe difficulties due to standing water. The plaster of Jinnah Hospital’s ceiling of Ward 22 had fallen, and in Sohrab Goth, a house collapsed, resulting in the death of a couple and injuries to their daughter.

In Mirpurkhas, ongoing rains for two days have led to water accumulation in several places, but the pumps brought in for drainage have remained unused for four days. In several areas, including Satellite Town, Pak Colony, and Shah Latif Town, rainwater has entered homes. Neighborhoods such as Bhan Singh, Hameed Pura, and Malik Riaz Colony are also experiencing water intrusion. Various wards and the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) admin block have started leaking, prompting many patients to leave the hospital and return home due to water entering the wards. In District Badin, heavy rainfall has persisted for three days, causing water to accumulate in low-lying areas. Many villages in Golarchi have been submerged, while water levels have risen in the kacha areas of Khairpur. Additionally, rain continues in Jacobabad, Thatta, Kashmore, Tando Allahyar, and Jamshoro.
