Heavy rain lashes Lahore, other Punjab citiesBreaking

Stormy rain lashed many Punjab cities including Lahore and twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday inundating low-lying areas and hindering traffic on roads. The heavy rain also struck Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Attock, Khushab, Mianwali, Upper Dir and Azad Kashmir’s Bhimber, breaking the heat spell and bringing down the mercury considerably. Residents of Lahore heaved a sigh of relief after heavy rain in Model Town, Johar Town, Gulberg, Kot Lakhpat, Liberty Chowk, Hussain Chowk and Qasuri Chowk. After heavy rain in Lahore and other parts of Punjab, Director-General Provincial Disaster Management Authority Irfan Ali Kathia directed all deputy commissioners of the province to remain alert and ready to tackle any emergency situation.

He directed Provincial Control Room and District Emergency Operations Centers (DEOC) to remain alert. Irfan Ali Kathia further said that PDMA Control Room is monitoring the situation round the clock while Rescue 1112 teams and other departments are ready with heavy machinery to control the situation. According to Met Office, there are chances of more rain in several parts of Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
