October 07, 2024

Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday reserved a verdict on a plea against fee hike in the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST). Students of FUUAST Law Department moved the SHC against 50 per cent hike in fees. The students in their play stated that as per law, 10pc fee can be increased yearly, but the same has been jacked up by 50 per cent on the ‘verbal orders’. The plea further stated that fee structure of various departments has been revised and the massive increase has created problems for the students. The SHC after hearing the arguments from both the side has reserved its verdict on the plea. Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) declared fee hike during study program in private medical colleges, illegal. The decision was pronounced by Justice Shahid Jameel after hearing pleas challenging the increase in the fees by private medical colleges during ongoing programs. LHC directed Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to ensure the collection of the fees from the students decided during enrollment in the respective program.
