Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a flood alert, warning of potential flash flooding in several districts of Punjab as monsoon rains are expected to intensify in the next 24 hours. According to PDMA spokesperson, heavy rains are likely to affect most districts of Punjab, with Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur divisions at particular risk of flash floods. In the last 24 hours, significant rainfall has been recorded across various regions, including 147 mm in Mangla, 78 mm in Mandi Bahauddin, and 76 mm in Jhelum.
Other areas such as Toba Tek Singh, Gujrat, and Narowal have also experienced substantial rainfall, with 40 mm, 35 mm, and 24 mm recorded respectively. The ongoing monsoon season has already claimed the lives of 105 civilians and injured 260 others due to incidents of lightning strikes, electrocution, and the collapse of dilapidated buildings, according to the PDMA spokesperson. Additionally, 89 cattle have perished as a result of the heavy rains. Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions as the monsoon rains continue to pose a threat to life and property across the province.
