Electricity prices likely to fall under monthly adjustmentBreaking

December 31, 2025

Electricity prices may be reduced once again across the country under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism, as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is set to hear a request for a further cut on Wednesday. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has approached Nepra seeking a reduction of 72 paisa per unit in electricity tariffs under the monthly adjustment for November.

As per the report, if approved, the relief will be extended to consumers nationwide, including those in Karachi.  Officials said the request reflects changes in fuel costs and power generation expenses during the relevant period. The hearing will determine whether the proposed adjustment will be passed on to consumers in upcoming electricity bills.  Currently, the October monthly adjustment is in effect across the country, including Karachi.

Under that adjustment, electricity tariffs were reduced by 88 paisa per unit, providing partial relief to consumers amid persistently high energy costs.  The outcome of Nepra’s hearing is expected to be closely watched, as any further reduction could ease the financial burden on households and businesses already struggling with inflation and rising utility expenses.
