A Lahore accountability court has ordered the transfer of the Ramzan Sugar Mills reference against the sitting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz to the Anti-Corruption Court. Accountability Court Judge Zubair Shehzad Kiani pronounced a four-page written verdict on Friday. The court ruled that, following the NAB Amendment Act, the trial of the Ramzan Sugar Mills reference can no longer be heard in the accountability court. The verdict further clarified that references involving amounts less than 500 million rupees do not fall under the jurisdiction of the accountability court. The accountability court had reserved the decision of the Ramazan Sugar Mills yesterday, which was pronounced today. A reference to the Ramazan Sugar Mills against Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz was filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the accountability court during the last regime of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
