December 09, 2024

In a remarkable shift in culinary preferences, Pakistani salt is rapidly gaining popularity in China, captivating consumers with its unique flavor and natural purity. From January to October of this year, Pakistan exported an impressive 29,475.923 tons of salt to China, worth $4.98 million, according to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). Asif Jalil, owner of Little Lahore Cuisines across China, said that as health-conscious Chinese consumers increasingly seek authentic and high-quality ingredients, the demand for Pakistani rock salt has surged, leading to a significant uptick in exports. “Renowned for its rich mineral content and distinctive taste, this natural seasoning is not only enhancing the flavors of traditional Chinese dishes but also finding its way into gourmet kitchens across the country.

With the backing of improved trade relations and a growing appreciation for authentic products, Pakistani salt is poised to become a staple in Chinese households, marking a new chapter in the evolving landscape of international food trade,” he added. Karim Aziz Malik, CEO of Himalayan Pink Salt, said that the rise in salt exports is attributed to several factors, including the growing demand for high-quality salt in China, which is increasingly being used in food processing, pharmaceuticals, and various industrial applications. Pakistani rock salt, known for its purity and mineral content, has gained popularity among Chinese consumers and businesses alike. "Pakistan's rock salt is not only a staple in kitchens but also a valuable resource for various industries.

The growing awareness of the health benefits associated with natural salt has further fueled demand in China," he stated. In response to the rising demand, local producers are ramping up their production capabilities and exploring new marketing strategies to enhance their presence in the Chinese market.  Several Pakistani salt exporters have reported establishing long-term contracts with Chinese distributors, ensuring a steady flow of exports in the coming years. As the year progresses, stakeholders in the salt industry are hopeful that the momentum will be sustained, with plans to participate in trade fairs and exhibitions in China to showcase the quality and versatility of Pakistani salt products, Gwadar Pro reported on Monday.
