Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and Kashgar University have signed a MoU to strengthen academic collaboration, student and faculty exchanges, joint research and broader institutional engagement between the two universities.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost of LUMS, and Prof. Palidan Tursun, President of Kashgar University during the 15th Xinjiang Kashgar–Central and South Asia Commodity Fair, Gwadar Pro reported.

The partnership marks a new step in China-Pakistan educational cooperation and is expected to create opportunities for student exchanges, faculty visits, joint research projects and academic dialogue.

Hui Qi, Adjunct Faculty at LUMS, who witnessed the signing ceremony, described the agreement as a meaningful milestone in educational and people-to-people exchanges between China and Pakistan.

“Connectivity is not only built through railways, roads and trade corridors. Universities connect people, students connect cultures, research connects ideas, and education creates relationships that can last for generations,” Hui said.

Kashgar, a historic hub on the ancient Silk Road and China’s western gateway, occupies a strategic position linking China with Central and South Asia.

Its geographical proximity to Pakistan also gives Kashgar University the potential to serve as an important academic bridge between the two countries.

The signing took place during the five-day Kashgar–Central and South Asia Commodity Fair, which brought together more than 1,100 Chinese companies and 181 enterprises from 40 countries and regions, including Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Ghana.

The event focused on promoting international trade and investment through business matchmaking and cooperation in sectors including biomedicine, cultural tourism, textiles and agriculture.

Pakistani companies also participated in the fair, reflecting growing economic and commercial engagement between Pakistan and China and the wider Central and South Asian region.
