October 09, 2026

A six-member delegation from Fudan University visited four leading Pakistani universities to introduce the JUSTCOOL PhD programme and strengthen academic and research cooperation between Pakistan and China.

The five-year PhD programme is designed for international students, offering 90 seats annually in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, Gwadar Pro reported on Friday.

Applications for the current intake are open from September 28 to November 14.

The programme provides outstanding non-Chinese undergraduates with a direct pathway from a bachelor’s degree to doctoral research, with instruction and supervision conducted in English.

The Chinese delegation visited the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and COMSATS University Islamabad on October 5, followed by Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) and Bahria University on October 6.

The delegation was led by Chen Yan, Associate Vice President and Executive Dean of Fudan University’s Graduate School, and comprised faculty members and representatives responsible for international students and global partnerships.

Jointly launched by Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Tongji University, the JUSTCOOL programme aims to attract outstanding international students to experience China's leading research environment and provide them with opportunities to engage in cutting-edge scientific research.

A comprehensive scholarship package is available to successful students, covering tuition fees, on-campus accommodation and medical insurance.

The programme also provides assistantship stipends and an additional fellowship, offering financial support to international students during their doctoral studies.
