The Confucius Institute at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (CI-UAF) has inaugurated a branch, formally called a Confucius Institute subset, at Minhaj University Lahore (MUL), expanding Chinese language and academic programmes in the city as Pakistan and China mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Chinese Consul General in Lahore Sun Yan attended the ceremony as chief guest, while CI-UAF Dean Dr Saddam Hussain was the guest of honour.

Senior officials from MUL, Punjab Tianjin University of Technology and other institutions also attended.

Speaking at the event, Hussain said the new centre would promote Chinese language education, academic exchanges, joint research, scholarships, technology transfer and collaboration with industry, creating new opportunities for students and faculty.

The new centre is expected to support Chinese language teaching, academic research, cultural exchange and student and faculty mobility between Pakistan and China.
