The Karakoram International University (KIU) and Chinese company Ningxia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the cultivation, research and commercial utilization of medicinal plants in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Under the agreement, the partners will establish a research center at KIU focused on the scientific identification of indigenous medicinal plants, assessment of their therapeutic properties and exploration of their applications in pharmaceutical development.

According to KIU, the research center will provide students and researchers in Gilgit-Baltistan with opportunities to conduct scientific studies on medicinal plants within the region, Gwadar Pro reported.
