Afghanistan fails to enforce ban on opium cultivationBreaking

The Afghan government miserably failed to enforce ban on the cultivation of opium. The opium cultivation witnessed an increase of 19% despite the already imposed ban in the Taliban regime. According to insiders, the increase in the cultivation of opium shows weak administration of Taliban in Afghanistan. The continuous increase in the cultivation of opium was seen in the northeast region due to the absence of a robust policy. The Taliban government failed to provide any alternate employment to the farmers and therefore an increase in the cultivation of opium was seen resultantly. The farmers are facing miserable situation in Badakhshan province of Afghanistan. The price of opium was $730 per kilogram in the market. The increase in the cultivation of opium is a threat to the public health and stability of the region.
