Saim Ayub Does It All! Pakistan Finally Beat Australia in T20I OpenerBreaking

January 30, 2026

After seven years, Pakistan finally tasted T20 success against Australia, and they did it in style. Winning the toss on a turning surface, Pakistan posted a competitive 168 for 8, a total that proved just enough thanks to disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.

The star of the night was undoubtedly Saim Ayub, whose all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award. Promoted with intent, Ayub smashed a blistering 40 off just 22 balls, injecting momentum into Pakistan’s innings when it mattered most. He was well supported by Salman Agha, who played a composed knock of 39, ensuring Pakistan reached a defendable score.

With the ball, Pakistan’s young spinners took full advantage of the conditions. Abrar Ahmed was exceptional, finishing with 2 for 10, completely stifling Australia’s middle order. Ayub chipped in again, picking up early wickets that triggered an Australian collapse. Australia never truly recovered and were restricted to 146 for 8, falling short by 22 runs.

The night also marked a milestone for Babar Azam, who played his 100th home international. While he didn’t dominate with the bat, his presence was felt in the field, where he pulled off three sharp catches, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Fans were quick to praise Pakistan’s young spinners and their control on a tricky pitch. Former cricketer Ihtisham-ul-Haq summed it up best, saying Saim Ayub can always be trusted with the ball — perhaps not as much with the bat. On this night, though, Ayub delivered in every department.

What do you think — has Pakistan finally found a genuine all-round match-winner in Saim Ayub?
