The death of prominent political and tribal leader Malik Shingal Khan Tareen has been mourned and grieved throughout Balochistan. The Harnai-based leader, known as Malik Sher Gul Tareen, was killed nearly two weeks after he had been abducted by unidentified armed men.

Tareen was kidnapped on May 21 near Mangi area on Harnai-Quetta Road while going for routine work. Three police officials who were taken along with him were later released unharmed, but Tareen was still missing until his body was recovered from the mountainous Zarghoon Ghar region.

Tareen was a respected tribal elder and district general secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Harnai. He was active in local politics and community affairs.

Political leaders, tribal elders and residents strongly condemned the killing and demanded immediate arrest of those responsible. The incident has again raised serious questions on the security situation in Balochistan where abductions and violence continue to haunt local communities. There is mounting pressure on the authorities to seek justice and prevent more tragedies.
