MUZAFFARABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday to personally oversee the distribution of laptops to deserving students, reinforcing the government’s focus on education and youth empowerment in the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering stance on the Kashmir issue, emphasizing continued diplomatic and moral support for the people of Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He paid tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of Kashmiris, reiterating Pakistan’s backing of their right to self-determination.

He cited success stories of students who, he said, had used earlier laptops to build careers and overcome social and economic barriers. "Our youth, especially Gen Z, are more aware, more capable and better equipped to use technology than earlier generations," the prime minister said.

PM Sharif made it clear that the laptop distribution program is strictly merit driven. He described the laptops as more than just electronic devices, noting that they serve as essential tools for learning, skill development, and economic opportunity. He highlighted their importance in helping students remain connected to education, particularly during challenging periods such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the role of the Pakistan Endowment Fund, which provides financial assistance and scholarships to students from Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other underserved areas. Through this initiative, students are able to pursue higher education both within Pakistan and internationally, helping to build a skilled and competitive youth population.

In addition, PM Sharif announced major educational investments in AJK, including the establishment of four modern Daanish schools and plans for a Daanish University in the region. These projects aim to raise academic standards and provide students with access to world-class educational facilities.

The initiative sends a strong message that empowering youth through education remains a national priority. With access to modern technology and quality institutions, students in Azad Kashmir are better positioned to turn their potential into progress, shaping a brighter future for themselves and for Pakistan.
